Jurgen Klopp Jokes About Throwing a Party in Mallorca if Manchester City Are Stripped of Titles

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has made light of the ongoing financial investigation into Manchester City, stating that he would host a party in Mallorca if the Premier League were to strip City of their titles due to financial breaches.

City has been under investigation for allegedly breaking 115 financial rules between 2009 and 2018. The case was referred to an independent commission in February 2023, with a ruling expected in the first quarter of 2025. If City are found guilty, potential punishments include hefty fines, points deductions, relegation from the Premier League, and the stripping of previous titles.

Klopp, who recently took on the role of head of global soccer at Red Bull, humorously commented on the situation during his unveiling. "If it would happen, I told all the people who wanted to [come]: 'Just book a flight to Mallorca. I will buy the beer!' We'd have our own parade in my garden," he joked.

Despite the lighthearted tone, Klopp did not shy away from the fierce rivalry he had with City during his time at Liverpool. His Reds were City’s primary challengers for several seasons, winning the 2020/21 Premier League title, and finishing as runners-up in 2018/19 and 2021/22.

Klopp, who left Liverpool in the summer after eight-and-a-half years, cited burnout as the reason for stepping down from management. His successor, Arne Slot, has enjoyed a seamless transition, with Liverpool currently sitting at the top of the Premier League, while City are 12 points behind in sixth place.

Klopp's comments, though playful, highlight the intensity of his rivalry with Manchester City and his desire for justice in the face of the financial scandal. Whether or not the investigation leads to any serious consequences for City remains to be seen, but Klopp’s lighthearted promise has added another layer to this ongoing saga.
